Andrea Houck, President
A. Houck Designs, Inc.
Member ASID, IFDA
When I met Andrea Houck and we embarked on this journey of redesigning my home, I didn’t know what my style was. Andrea knew how to draw it out of me. She ultimately helped me find my style. For the first time, my home reflects my personality. I love coming home to it every day.
Andrea Houck really understands color and how to use it to create just the right feel. We weren’t too sure when Andrea suggested a shag rug, but we trusted her judgment and are really glad we did – that rug is a big hit with everyone, including our dog.
What sold me from the start on Andrea Houck’s work was her range of styles. I knew Andrea would create personalized rooms for my specific tastes – and she did! Andrea was also willing to work with pieces I already owned, like the living room rug, which we moved from my bedroom.
Andrea Houck provided design services for our living room, family room, entertainment room, sun room, a home office, and a child’s play room. She was easy and a joy to work with and was very creative while working within our styles and tastes. Recommend her very highly.
Creating a beautiful and functional home environment is a personal journey, and Andrea Houck is honored when clients in Arlington, McLean, and Northern Virginia invite her into their homes to help guide that process. In Houck’s interior design projects, the client’s personality and style – whether traditional, modern or somewhere in between – come through®.
Houck’s eye for details and passion for interior design revealed themselves early in life. When she was four, Houck pointed out to her parents that her newly installed bedroom wallpaper was upside-down, a fact that the adults hadn’t noticed. She brings that astute eye and aesthetic zeal to every A. Houck Designs project in the Northern Virginia area.
Houck has been “creating spaces you will love”® in the Washington, DC area for more than 16 years. After earning a BFA in Art and Design, she began her career in art direction and advertising. In 2000, Houck decided to return to Arlington, Virginia and to her roots and pursue her early passion – interior design.
Consistently recognized as a leader in the Washington, DC design community, Houck was selected to create the glamorous bar and hallway for the 2013 DC Design House. Most recently in 2016 she again was honored to design and implement a bedroom space called “Mademoiselle Chambre” the for the DC Design House. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, including Home & Design Magazine, The Washington Post, Arlington Magazine, Northern Virginia Magazine and Elle Decor.Com. For three years, Houck has been selected as a participant in Home & Design Magazine’s Portfolio of 100 Top Designers. She is an associate member of Metro Washington Chapter of ASID and a professional member of IFDA of Northern Virginia.
Houck is passionate about giving back to the community and has participated in interior design-related projects for Habitat for Humanity in South Carolina, the Georgetown Jingle in Washington, DC, and the Arlington Elementary School – Tuckahoe Home & Garden Tour in Arlington, Virginia.
