High Point Market is always so inspiring. In fact, I made so many exciting discoveries at Spring Market at a couple of weeks ago that I decided to split them into two blog posts (rather than writing one EPIC post). Yesterday I covered the two threads I noticed as I moved through the various showrooms — elements that showcase the natural beauty of wood and those that feature stone or shell. Today I’m sharing other favorite finds from the Spring 2018 Market.
Sometimes I find one particular piece within a collection that really speaks to me and sometimes it’s a whole new collection that grabs my attention. The latter was true for the just-launched Consort Collection, 44 furniture pieces from the high-style brand Consort. If you’ve been following Creating Spaces for a while, you probably know that I’m a bit of a Francophile. This whole collection was inspired by a journal the company founders uncovered at a Paris flea market. Say no more!
I love the stylized take on French Modernism! The whole collection is highly customizable, too. Just look at some of the fabric and finish options Consort offers:
I cannot wait to incorporate some of these Parisian-inspired pieces into future designs.
The Catalina Cabinet from Bliss Studio also caught my eye. I adore the beautiful, classical detailing and unusual finish (created by wire-brushing and bleaching solid Poplar).
It’s the final layer, though, that really makes a space and gives it personality. I’m always on the hunt for fresh ideas in artwork, lighting, hardware and accessories. And I’m so excited about my recent High Point discoveries.
These realistic, botanical giclée prints from Leftbank Art would bring color and drama to a space. The crackle finish adds another dimension.
The one-of-a-kind art pieces from Abby Price Art, available through Nancy Price Interior Design, showcase antique architectural fragments, often in combination with geodes and gems, in acrylic shadowboxes. I am crazy about these conversation pieces!
Great lighting is right up there with great art, in my book. I always find interesting lighting options at Visual Comfort, such as these slick Kelly Wearstler pendants. The brass finish is lovely, but the satin-black finish…wow!
Textiles, of course, can add color, pattern and texture to a space. I found some beautiful bed linens from Annie Selke’s Pine Cone Hill. This set marries a traditional paisley pattern with an on-trend palette of blues and grays (does this classic color combination ever really go out of style?). I love the watercolor quality of the print.
Pillows and throws are another great way to add color and texture to a space. Loloi is known for their amazing rug collections, but I spied some great accessories in their line too. Check out this fun pillow!
And these colorful, nubby throw blankets!
Hardware is like jewelry…the finishing touch that completes a space. And, oh my, has hardware come a long way! Case in point: this collection from Robin Baron.
One of my favorite parts of going to Market is the chance to visit with fellow designers, like Kimberley Seldon of Toronto-based Kimberley Seldon Design Group. Kimberley is not only a talented designer but also a business whiz who shares her know-how with other designers. What an inspiration!

As a native North Carolinian, a trip to Market for me also means spending time with family (including my mom, Jonnie) and friends.

I’m sure a few of my top picks from Spring Market will find their way into future projects by A. Houck Designs. There’s nothing like a trip to High Point to get the creative juices going!
