We initially came to Andrea for help renovating just a family room in our house. We looked at various designers but kept coming back to Andrea’s designs. Her rooms always seem to have the right amount of symmetry and the kind of colors and textures and simplicity that really suits us. We really enjoyed meeting her in person. We love that she runs her own business and is local here to Arlington. She was great to work with. She helped us figure out “our style”. She gives us just the right number of design choices without ever making us feel overwhelmed. She was able to create a beautiful room for us that was still practical for our children and our dogs. We were so happy with the first room that we ended up continuing on with her to redecorate most of the rest of our home. Years later, we are returning to her as we are designing a one story addition off the back of our house with a kitchenette, bathroom and bedroom in order to have a space for our parents to come live with us when the time is right. Andrea Houck has provided my husband and me (as relatively new empty nesters) with stellar interior design services at two homes now, invariably with beautiful results! She worked hard to understand our tastes and objectives with each room, then presented us with a variety of options, usually nailing it the first time but working with us to modify the initial plans, from time to time, based on our inputs. Her design presentations include to-scale pictorial designs, pictures of furniture and artwork, samples (fabric, paint, wallpaper, etc.), and pricing, and once decisions are made, a clear timeline for installations. When everything is ready, she shows up with her team of skilled workers (always on the scheduled date), supervises their work, and, voila, the finished product appears with little effort on our part! She executes her work with creativity, imagination, and professionalism -- and she is fun to work with! We have been thrilled with her work and cannot recommend her highly enough!

We recently completed our fifth design project with A. Houck Designs. This time we remodeled our basement away from a kids “do anything” area to empty nesters entertaining area, with a bathroom and kitchenette as part of the project. We did two upstairs bathrooms as well. We’ve returned to Andrea because she takes our general ideas and practical needs to a level we couldn’t achieve on our own. She pushes us in a good way to take what feel like risks to us, but which she has the experience to know will look great. That po has been made to us enough times that now we just trust. Andrea also brings top quality vendors and contractors to our projects.

Most designers have their own style and then use that same style on all of their work. Andrea is very different in this regard. Andrea spends the time to get to know her clients and their individual preferences / styles. Thus, as you will see on her website, most of her work varies at each home. In my case, the product was beautiful.

We turned to A. Houck Designs after we remodeled the first floor of our home. Andrea worked with us extensively, getting to know our tastes and vision for our project. She assisted with lighting, paint, window treatments and furniture. Andrea spent a great deal of time on all areas. I recently worked with Andrea on some updates to my home. Andrea is a delight to work with. She spent time in advance learning about my preferences and determining exactly what I wanted. For each item she proposed to us there were at least three very well researched choices for us to look at. I appreciated this so much! Andrea was very attentive to our vision and worked hard to create a space we would love. I also appreciated the advance detailed explanation of how her process works and it was extremely helpful to know how the orders would progress. Working with Andrea has been delightful. Having moved from a much larger home, the narrow rooms of DC’s row houses presented a challenge design. No problem for Andrea! She presented several color and design schemes, all of which were beautiful. Once our project was underway, she kept me informed of the progress of all aspects, from wallpaper to furniture. When a glitch presented itself, she worked tenaciously to get the problem solved. I’d love to work with her again. I love my new dining room and living room. I can relax in my urban home at last.

Stepping into the Christian Dior exhibition in Paris was like stepping into fashion history. Every sketch, gown, and keepsake reflected his extraordinary vision and lasting influence on the world of design. Every beautiful home begins long before the finishes and furnishings are selected
For this living room in Spring Valley, our clients wanted to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside. Inspired by the home`s tree-lined setting and the homeowners` love of nature, our goal was to create a space that felt welcoming, functional, and connected to its surroundings.

After establishing the furniture plan, we turned our attention to the materials that would bring the vision to life. Inspired by our clients` love of nature and the home`s picturesque setting, this moodboard layers soft florals, organic textures, and a calming palette of blues, greens, and warm neutrals.

Every fabric, finish, and material was selected with intention, creating a timeless space that feels both connected to the outdoors and designed for everyday living.
