June is shaping up to be a very busy month for me and my family. Take this week: my son, Carson, and I are off to revisit the college he will matriculate at in August and then, later this week, he graduates from high school. Last week was his senior prom — and we hosted the before and after parties at our house. Whew!
I love to entertain and, no matter how condensed my party-planning timetable is, I like to set a beautiful table (it’s my Southern upbringing again). Senior prom is such an important rite of passage, and I wanted to make the experience memorable for my son and his friends. I pulled out the linens and silver and created a special centerpiece, using some of my favorite flowers.

I stacked three glass cake plates to create the tiered arrangement. The height and graduated shape from the three stands really make a statement. Vendela roses, green dianthus, pink stock, button poms, dusty miller, and daisies are a fresh combination.

This particular floral combination lent just the casually elegant look I was after:

Of course, candlelight makes the floral centerpiece and spread look even better! I love the simplicity of the thin, white tapers.

I think Carson and his friends appreciated my efforts to set the proper tone for their big night. After all, it’s not often that I get to see the kids who hang around our house in Nike shorts and tee shirts all decked out in tuxs and gowns! They clean up nicely. Here I am, the proud mom, putting the finishing touches on Carson’s prom attire before our guests arrived:

Carson and his lovely girlfriend subtly coordinated their prom-night outfits with blue accents:

One spirited couple opted for less subtle, patriotic-themed attire. Hmm, this photo of them puts me in the mood for upcoming 4th of July festivities (but that’s a post for another day!):

The night was a huge success! The kids had a great time and so did all their parents, who gathered at our house for the photo op. And I’m not sure which group was more exhausted at the end of the night, but we were certainly ready to kick off our shoes and put up our feet.

What’s on your June docket? If you’re entertaining, please share a photo of your tabletop design. And whatever special event is on your calendar this month, I hope you celebrate it in style!
