With teenagers bound for college, our clients were ready for more sophisticated interiors and asked A. Houck Designs to help flesh out a vision. Our mission: to infuse the spaces with grown-up, modern-eclectic style—without sacrificing comfort and ease.
The house had been previously renovated, so we focused primarily on finishes and furnishings. Employing oodles of color, pattern, and texture, we brought cohesion and flair to the first-floor spaces. Meaningful pieces of art from the clients’ existing collection received prominent placements in our layered schemes.
These sophisticated yet not stuffy spaces accommodate adult dinner parties as easily as family movie nights, not to mention all the everyday living in between.
“The place looks fantastic and really feels right. Cannot wait to see how the rest unfolds!”

An impressive stone fireplace, with a television mounted above, anchors the family room’s seating area. New built-in reading nooks deliver practical panache. Custom bench seats, plenty of throw pillows, and wall-mounted sconces ensure hours of reading pleasure.

The foyer hints at the color and pattern to come, from its Roman shade crafted in a whimsical print to its colored-glass ceiling light.
