If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably know that I love creating festive tabletops and floral arrangements. I think of these elements as an extension of interior design — another gracious layer you can add to make family and guests feel special, any time of year. But I especially love decorating for the holidays and that includes setting a beautiful table.
Thanksgiving is all about gathering with family around the table (okay, that and eating too much turkey and trimmings!). In anticipation of next week’s feast, I pulled out my Thanksgiving wares and created a tablescape to welcome our brood in style.
A long, low centerpiece encourages conversation — and adds drama, to boot!
Colorful Botanical Harvest plates from Pottery Barn set the tone for the tabletop.
Little details — from votive candles to turkey placecard holders — make a big difference.
Rattan placemats add oodles of texture and anchor the settings.
Don’t neglect the other flat surfaces in the room. I topped our buffet with an autumnal display, featuring pretty-yet-practical, pumpkin soup tureens from Sur la Table.
I mixed two styles of cloth napkins (a paisley print and a solid orange) and wine glasses in different styles and colors to keep things interesting and not too matchy-matchy.
The centerpiece combines pumpkins in a variety of hues with fresh flowers in short, glass vases. I also added ceramic gourds and faux foliage to the abundant mix.
Everyone is scrambling this time of year to check off everything on the list. Between the grocery shopping and the food prep, it’s easy to overlook the tabletop, but a festive display really does help to make the meal memorable. We are always happy to help clients with their holiday decor (with a little advance notice). December will be here before we know it. Let the decorating begin!
Now that I’ve planned my own Thanksgiving tablescape, it’s time to turn to the menu. I love cooking almost as much as I love decorating. Again, preparing a yummy meal is yet another way to let our guests know how special they are to us. What are some of your favorite dishes?
This Thanksgiving we are thankful to be gathering with family, including our precious grandson, Ben — who’s getting in the holiday-decorating spirit already!
We wish you the happiest of Thanksgivings with your family and friends!
