High Point Market, held in the spring and fall, is the ultimate shopping experience for designers. Over the course of four days last week, I checked out the latest product introductions in my go-to lines and discovered some exciting new lines. I also scoured showrooms to find key missing pieces for several client projects. When you cover so much ground and see so many inspiring things, it’s hard to pick favorites. But here are a few finds that stood out to me.
One thing I’m always on the hunt for is comfortable seating. If a chair isn’t comfortable, what’s the point? But when you find one that combines high style and comfort, you have a winner. And this sexy, open-back chair, from the new Ray Booth Collection for Hickory Chair, is a definite winner!
I love this arrangement — the two chairs sharing the generously sized ottoman. It would be the perfect set-up for a cool bachelor pad, or any cluby setting, for that matter. And trend watch: Green popped up in more than a few places at High Point.
I spotted another fabulously comfortable and stylish chair at the Mr. & Mrs. Howard showroom.
Check out the interesting, slat-back detail, which is a nice touch in a floating furniture arrangement:
And sumptuously thick cushions ensure that you’re not going to sacrifice comfort with the exposed-wood frame.
Ambella Home offers some great seating options. The sharp design of this club chair caught my eye. I’m crazy about the arm detail.
All the design details combine to make this chair the perfect blend of masculine and feminine.
I’m obsessed with this slatted bench, with a slightly curved seat, also from Ambella Home.
The bench has a sculptural quality and would be an ideal choice for flexible, pull-up seating.
Of course, every furniture grouping needs a table or two. Check out these stone and metal concoctions from CTH/Sherrill Occasional.
Sporting a totally different look, this wicker console from Mainly Baskets would make a casually elegant addition to a breakfast area or sunroom.
The whimsical, scalloped design resembles a table skirt, don’t you think? Furniture from Mainly Baskets can also be ordered in an array of lovely colors to fit any scheme.
All this fabulous furniture calls for a gorgeous ground. I can’t get this stunner from Loloi Rugs out of my head!
This brand-new design features a mesmerizing digital landscape and just enough color to give it some pop. I’ve been searching for a rug to spice up the neutrals in my own living room, and this may be the one!
As you probably know by now, I believe lighting, accessories and art play an all-important role in completing a design. I explored a variety of lighting options at High Point, from traditional chandeliers to recessed cans — and everything in between. Take a look at this jaw-dropping design from Julie Neill for Visual Comfort:
A cluster of pressed-glass rosettes falls from a gilded base. Perfection! The chandelier would certainly play a starring role in a grand entryway or a dining room.
And speaking of dining rooms…form and function meet in these jeweled salt and pepper shakers I discovered at Roberta Schilling (this showroom has some incredible furniture too).
The shakers are such miniature works of art that I had to examine one closely to determine what it was. Can’t you picture them among the finery on an elegantly set table? Hmm, I wish I had a pair for this Sunday…
Nothing completes a bedroom, of course, like luxurious linens. I found these soothing, painterly designs by Charlotte, North Carolina-artist Laura Park for Pine Cone Hill at the CODARUS showroom. And look, ladies, you can even get a chic caftan to match your bed linens!
Now, a quick update on two finds I shared with you from last spring’s High Point Market. I gushed over the onyx bowls and canoes from Verona Privé in this post. Well, this year Verona Privé added calcite vessels to their offerings:
I didn’t think it was possible for me to be any more in love with this line, but the vibrant blues, greens and purples in the new pieces may have accomplished the impossible.
And here, I introduced you to Abby Price Art available through Nancy Price Interiors. Abby creates one-of-a-kind pieces by combining antique architectural remnants, geodes and gems. Sleek acrylic shadowboxes set off her crusty creations perfectly.
Her gallery was one of my first stops at High Point last week, and I ordered three pieces for a grouping to be installed in my clients’ Washington, DC, dining room. The starburst below will go in the middle, and two smaller pieces, being custom-made to size as I write this, will flank it.
So tell me, which of these fabulous High Point finds is calling your name? Have a lovely weekend, everyone, and a happy Passover or Easter.
